Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Supporters'
Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered keeper Vicario were told afterwards "they can't be true Spurs supporters" by manager Thomas Frank.
Spurs conceded two goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to their opponents, registering their tenth top-flight home loss of the year.
But the primary talking point was the visitors' second goal when the keeper lost possession far beyond his box.
He came out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the sideline.
But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at 36.6 metres.
Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs fans jeered him.
The team were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those jeering sessions really angered the manager.
"It came to my attention a few of our fans apparently jeered the incident and booed following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Dane stated about the fans' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals can't be real Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are with one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal ā with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half showing.
Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' frustration," Hart added. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a true figure in the locker room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the winning score."
'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Game
Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.
The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to take the feedback.
"That goal was a error of my own, I accept accountability for it," he commented.
"The intent was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad way. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."
He stated being booed "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, what can I say?" he continued. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It's on us to stay increasingly composed, to focus on our own performance. We are missing in composure and poise to overturn results. This match is a bad defeat and it's hard to accept."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Line'
In spite of Vicario's error, it was not an easy score for Wilson to score.
Actually it was the next longest-range top division goal of the season ā following Adams' 43.3 yard strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on Saturday.
Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an open net to aim for.
Ten seconds elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and Wilson shooting ā which was 5 moments following the clearance.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," he said.
"It amazed me none of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to achieve the right contact and get it towards goal. I had a good sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager
Although the keeper's mistake dominated headlines, this was an all-round poor performance for Tottenham to extend their home ground woes.
This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to come prior to the close of the season.
Only one of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the off-season.
"If you are behind 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated Frank.
"During in a poor run, everything seems to work against you too ā the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a error from Vic.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Each fixture has a unique story, this game we lost in the early stages.
"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck something we can utilize to develop."
Spurs have lost 4 straight home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the Premier League ā their poorest rates on record in a one season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Ex- Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He's got take the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He has taken a high profile job at a huge team with massive expectation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.
"The performances at home have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
