Outrage as Popular South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a country battling rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was approached by three suspects, with one shot at him before escaping on foot.
The purpose of the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested are in custody, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Law enforcement indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a premises close to the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the property supervising the installation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, as per local media.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," authorities confirmed.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what resembled a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were found at the crime scene.
Appeal for Witnesses
Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"We know they covered significant ground after the attack, and police have been following their trail to establish their location," remarked an authority figure.
Family and Public Reaction
His family member, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to understand the tragedy.
"I am devastated. I don't have words," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were willing to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."
She urged the citizens to not sharing graphic images from the scene, saying this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a South African broadcasting platform.
In addition to his role as a presenter, Stock was active in various commercial activities, including security provision, supplying elite guarding services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in property management and assisted with tenant removals.

His murder has caused national trauma and led to an flood of condolences from his fans, the government and political parties.
A senior figure remarked he was angry and saddened by Stock's murder.
"He was forthright fearlessly and impartially. He even criticized me and my policies as a minister. He was a pure example of who we should be," he stated.
A political leader said the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a shock for all South Africans".

In a communication, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his charisma, approachability and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will endure".
