Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
