Donald Trump's Actions Constitute a Risk to Civilization.

The national and international initiatives – ranging from the challenge to the democratic process in the past to recent moves and statements – undermine both national and global law. The implications are broader.

They jeopardize the very concept of what we mean by.

The guiding principle of any advanced culture is to stop the dominant from preying upon and using the less powerful. Otherwise, we would be trapped in a brutish war where survival of the strongest wins.

This principle is embedded of the nation's founding texts. This is also the core of the postwar international order championed by the US, emphasizing international cooperation, democratic governance, fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law.

Yet, it is a delicate principle, easily violated by those who choose to misuse their power. Maintaining it necessitates that the influential have enough integrity to refrain from seeking immediate gains, and that the public ensure they answer for their actions if they don't.

Unchecked strength does not equal right. It results in turmoil, disruption, and hostilities.

Whenever individuals, companies, or nations that are advantaged target and use those that are less so, the framework of society frays. If these actions are not contained, the structure collapses. Allowing it to persist, the world can descend into chaos and war. We have seen this pattern previously.

We now inhabit a global community grown vastly more unequal. Authority and resources are held by fewer hands than in modern history. This encourages the powerful to leverage their position against the less fortunate because they perceive themselves as above the law.

The resources of a handful of tycoons is almost beyond comprehension. The power of big tech, big oil, and large defense contractors spans numerous countries. AI is could consolidate resources and influence even more. The destructive power of the leading countries is unprecedented in recorded history.

Supported by a compliant faction and an accommodating high court, the presidency has been transformed into the most dominant and unchecked agent of government in recent memory.

Put it all together and you perceive the looming crisis.

An unbroken thread links previous lawless actions to current menaces. These were premised on the arrogance of invincibility.

One observes much the same in the actions of other powers: in wars of aggression, in coercive diplomacy, and in the rampant monopolization by powerful corporate entities.

However, strength without restraint does not establish right. It fosters fragility, revolution, and bloodshed.

History shows that frameworks designed to check the influential also protect them. If these guardrails are removed, their insatiable demands for increased control and resources eventually cause their collapse – along with their corporations, nations, or empires. And risk global conflict.

This kind of disregard for rules will haunt the nation and the world – and indeed civilization – for the foreseeable future.
